Liverpool news LIVE updates: Mahrez SHOCK; Aubameyang deal on, Real Madrid ace incoming

Thursday January 11

Liverpool duo’s contracts

10:15: Liverpool are keen to tie down Harry Wilson and Ovie Ejaria to new deals before allowing them to go out on loan.

Both youngsters have impressed in the Under 23s this season but have failed to make the grade under Jurgen Klopp with the German not naming them in any of his match day squads this term.

With the January transfer window now open, the pair are keen to go out and get some regular football under their belts with a number of Championship teams showing interest.

Klopp remains a big fan of the duo after hearing rave reviews from the Academy coaches, but cannot guarantee them first team football between now and the end of the season.

Wilson and Ejaria are both stalling on signing new deals as they weigh up their options, claim the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool offered Moura

08:20: Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign Lucas Moura from PSG.

That’s according to French newspaper Le Parisien.

The player’s representatives have supposedly told the Reds they can sign him as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

And that could rankle with Manchester United, who are also keen on the 25-year-old.

Messi blocks Liverpool deal

08:00: Lionel Messi has supposedly stopped Liverpool signing Sergi Roberto.

Diario Gol say the Barcelona star does not want Roberto to leave the Nou Camp.

Liverpool enquired about the 25-year-old’s availability while negotiating for Philippe Coutinho.

But, on Messi’s orders, the player ended up staying at Barcelona.

Van Dijk would have preffered Blues

17.25: Virgil van Dijk would have found it easier to play in the Chelsea defence than the one at Liverpool, says Tony Gale.

But Gale believes Liverpool needed Van Dijk more and does not think missing out on him is a huge blow for Chelsea.

“Time will tell but I don’t think (it will be) that costly because I think Chelsea defensively as a unit are pretty solid,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Yes, the addition of one more would have been good, but I don’t think they were as desperate as Liverpool.

“It’s just the way they play, the way Liverpool play, Man City play. Of course Chelsea play with the three at the back and everybody in and around them.

“It’s an easier position to play at Chelsea than it is at Liverpool or Man City.”

Khedira wants Can at Juve

14:50: Sami Khedira would welcome Liverpool star Emre Can at Juventus.

Reports last week suggested the German has already agreed terms with the Serie A giants over a prospective move.

“Emre Can is a player I know well. Emre of course is a really good player, he can move and he is powerful and talented,” he said.

“But of course he has to learn. If there is a possibility to sign this player then I think Juve has to use this chance.

“I think he is a free agent in this summer period and if I am a manager, I would try to sign him.”

Ceballos deal close

12.45: Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos after a hotel meeting with the player, according to reports.

Ceballos has been tipped to leave Real Madrid for Liverpool as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona at the weekend.

The midfielder has found game time hard to come by at the Bernabeu following his summer move from Real Betis.

And Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim he is edging closer towards a move to Anfield after the Reds met with the player at a hotel.

It is said his agent has been locked in talks with the Reds, though four other unnamed clubs are keen to snap him up.

Liverpool, however, can be deemed favourites given the financial muscle they have at their disposal.

Ceballos is unlikely to command a huge fee given his lack of game time at Real.

But the Reds, fuelled by the £142m received for Coutinho, Liverpool have the resources to beat any club to the 21-year-old’s signature.

Diario Gol say, however, that Zinedine Zidane may be an obstacle to any potential deal.

Suso return?

10.55: Liverpool could sign Suso from AC Milan as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.

Liverpool lost Coutinho to Barcelona on Saturday with the Brazil international moving to the Nou Camp in a huge £142million deal.

The Reds have been linked with Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez as a replacement, while Monaco’s Thomas Lemar is another name being backed to make the move to Merseyside.

However, the Liverpool Echo say the Reds may look at re-signing Suso from AC Milan instead.

The 24-year-old signed under former boss Brendan Rodgers back in 2012 but struggled to make an impression at Anfield.

Suso managed just 21 appearances for Liverpool before signing for Milan in 2014 after a short loan spell in Spain with Algeria.

The Spaniard has since rebuilt his career at the San Siro, even being capped by the national team last year.

And the Liverpool Echo say he could sensationally return to Liverpool as Coutinho’s replacement.

Barton on Coutinho

09:00: Liverpool could be a better side without Philippe Coutinho following his £142m transfer to Barcelona, says Joey Barton.

“Klopp was having an issue, certainly in the Liverpool games I had seen, of getting Coutinho, [Sadio] Mane, [Mohamed] Salah and Lallana all into the same side,” Barton told talkSPORT.

“It is going to be Mane and Salah either side of [Roberto] Firmino and now he has got only a smaller issue of does he play [Georginio] Wijnaldum or Lallana.

“I think it has actually helped Klopp out. He knew he had a player who wanted away, he was getting a load of money for him, he knew he would be able to reinvest in the side.

Conte on Van Dijk

07:31: Antonio Conte admits Chelsea were interested in Virgil van Dijk before Liverpool snapped him up from Southampton earlier this month.

Asked if he was disappointed on missing out on the centre-half, Conte said: “This is football. This is life. For sure he was our target but as you know this is football.

“We can have a lot of targets but you must be able to reach those targets. The transfer market is not simple for any club.”

Liverpool consider Aubameyang move

06.30: Liverpool are preparing to hijack Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to China, according to reports.

The Borussia Dortmund forward has fallen out of favour in Germany and is set for a move to either Guenghzou Evergrande or Beijing Guoan.

However, according to French publication Le10Sport, Liverpool are considering a late move for the striker.

But the Reds will face competition from Real Madrid, who are looking to replace misfiring Frenchman Karim Benzema.

Mahrez was house hunting in Liverpool

06.00: Liverpool DID come close to signing Mahrez after Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona, according to beIN Sports reporter Mohammed Al-Wadahi.

He claims Mahrez was already looking for a house in Liverpool.

“The news of the transfer to Liverpool is a very reliable source of much more than the player’s agent,” he tweeted.

“He did not publish it until I received the green light from the same player who started looking for a house in Liverpool and was ready to move to Liverpool for a medical examination after he was told.

“At the last moment there were things I would come back to later.”

Real Madrid chase Liverpool’s Salah

05.30: Real Madrid are keen to sign Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah after watching Barcelona break the bank to take Philippe Coutinho to the Bernabeu, according to reports.

The Egyptian has been in magnificent form since moving to Anfield, scoring 24 goals for both club and country.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Real are hopeful of convincing the 25-year-old to move to the Spanish capital.

However, it looks unlikely Jurgen Klopp would sell his star attacker, especially so soon after losing Coutinho.
